God is Our Father in Heaven Patricia Ann, Originally posted on Friday, September 10, 2010
Every day in this world, people are verbally, emotionally and physically abused. From the time we - as children - are growing up, we look to our parents for love and approval, seeking to make them happy, to do good and to be deserving of
their love.
As small children, we begin to learn from our parents. They are our role models. We see our world through our parent's eyes and shape and form our thoughts and attitudes based on how our parents view and interact with other people and the world around them.
For years, children have been growing up in broken homes. These homes may not be visibly broken on the outside, but inside, behind closed doors, a child learns the feelings of rejection, not being good enough, and not worthy of love.
I've seen this so many times, and it always breaks my heart to see any kind of abuse.
As children learn what they see and have nowhere to turn for help, they very often retreat into themselves and become survivors. They live in survival mode. They learn to go through the motions of what they've seen and how they perceive life should be.
Many learn to live on their own. Inside, they know that they want to be loved. Somehow, they know love exists. However, they do not know how to receive or give love because of the trauma they faced in childhood. They search for that elusive love and find themselves in a circle that has to be broken. The circle has to be broken, because if left unattended and not faced, the life cycle of the abuse continues from generation to generation. The neglected children of today become the abusive parents of tomorrow. They feel unworthy and have never experienced the amazing comfort or safety of a father's love and protective embrace.
But Jesus! He is always present to help us. He speaks to our broken hearts; He calls us worthy. He calls us His bride.
The abused and traumatized child/adult many times blames God for not protecting them and turns away into a life filled with drugs, sex, or more abuse in the arms of anybody who brings a little bit of comfort.
But Jesus! He sends help! And He personally meets us and takes us into the Most loving embrace and tells us it's okay. His heart knows the pain of every sin, sickness or disease that has ever been. And through this love and relationship with Jesus, we can enter into relationship with our true Father. God is our loving Father in Heaven. His word tells us that He foreknew each of us. He formed us in or mother's womb. He has chosen us and we are very dear to His heart. He seeks to take us into His embrace and protect us from the harmful effects of abusive ways of this world.
In a perfect world, fathers and mothers would care for their children and treat them with love. but as abusive cycles continue, we must look to our Father in Heaven to make things right. God is our Father in Heaven and in that we find acceptance. The pain of rejection goes away as we focus on the One who truly loves us the Most.
Scripture shows us Ephesians 6:4 "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."
In Corinthians 4:15 Paul writes:
For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your Father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Our parents are not perfect, and we will never be perfect -- no one is -- but God desires for each of us to look to Him as our Father -- our parent who will never do us wrong.
He desires for us to live full and productive lives with the ability to give and receive love, His love.
We can always come to our Father in Heaven for the love, forgiveness and peace we seek.
Matthew 7:7
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Did you know that you can ask Jesus into your heart right now? He will receive you unconditionally, regardless of your past?
John 14:27-28
Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Did you know that with Jesus and a relationship with your true Father in Heaven, that you can finally live free from fear and further abuse?" He will wrap you in His embrace and carry you through and bind up your broken heart and give you a new heart refreshed in Himself.
I've seen abuse so many times, and it always breaks my heart to see any kind of abuse.
As children learn what they see and have nowhere to turn for help, they very often retreat into themselves and become survivors. They live in survival mode. They learn to go through the motions of what they've seen and how they perceive life should be.
It is my prayer that in times of trouble, in abusive and broken homes and with broken hearts -- we will find the strength and knowledge to rely on Our Father in Heaven. It is He who loves us the Most. May we live on earth as it is in Heaven! It is our Heavenly Father who calls us Worthy! Blessings to all in Christ Jesus. Amen
