2 Kings 2:20-21

“Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.

Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’ ”

I remember when I was a little girl, one of my favorite things to do when at my Grandma's house was to lick her salt rock!

My Grandma had a lot of rocks displayed on the shelf in her kitchen.  She had them all labeled as to what kind they were and where she had found them.

I suppose that at some time she had allowed us to "taste" the salt rock.  She was a teacher, so she definitely would have wanted us to know how special that characteristic of that salt rock was.

I remember taking that salt rock down off my Grandma's shelf and sitting on her bedroom floor with my brother and we would take turns licking that "salty" rock!  We never got reprimanded for it and the rock was plenty big to allow kids to be licking it for a lot of years to come.

I didn't know much about the Scriptures in the Bible when I was a child.  As I grew up, I often heard that Christians should be the salt of the earth.

Just what did that mean?

The LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’ ”

Do you suppose that Jesus wants us to be like salt?  He says He does!

Many times, in His word we read Scripture pertaining to salt.

The world we live in tells us that salt is bad for our body, that it leads to disease, but God's word says something different.

God speaks that salt is necessary for cleansing and healing. It is necessary for life!

Did you know that our blood has a fixed salinity, much like sea water?

And, so it is that when we treat our body like a temple of the Holy Spirit,  which it is, we won't have an imbalance in salt caused be eating an abundance of worldly processed poison food and we won't have a salt deficit from avoiding the salt.

And when we drink and digest the Word of God, it is as "healed" water. Never again will it cause death...

Jesus wants us to overcome death by speaking life. He wants us to live a life healed.

Salt is healing!

May our words be like salt...  healing all wounds, emotional and physical in our body... both individually and in the body of Christ.

Like salt in a wound physically heals the wound, God calls us to speak the truth, to speak of His ways...to be as salt.

Not everybody wants to hear the truth because it condemns the flesh, but decaying flesh needs to be debrided for healing to occur.

“Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him. 2 Kings 20-21

I am thankful that my Grandma was a beautiful, nonjudgmental woman of God,  who let me lick her salt rock.  She truly had no idea how God would use that experience in my life...for such a time as this.

My prayer for today is that we do not fear consuming salt and allowing the Holy Spirit to use it, as He sees fit for the healing of wounded souls, to debride bad situations and cleanse the body, mind, Spirit and soul.

Praise the Lord for His Word is forever faithful and true.  Love and blessings to all in Christ Jesus.  Amen.

Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’ ”
