His Banner Over Me is Love... Song of Solomon 2:4

As I woke this morning, I heard these words spoken to me in the early morning light.  "My banner over you is love."

The kids song popped into my head, as I heard the words over and over "His banner over me is love."

What an awesome early morning gift from Jesus!

Yes, indeed His banner over me is love and His banner of love is also over you!

And Song of Solomon so beautifully expresses that love.

So special and warm, desiring and comforting, a place of beauty and satisfaction, desire and fulfillment.

That's our Jesus and every day He longs to have that relationship with us.

She describes herself as a flower, the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys.

His response to her..."like a lily among the thorns."  She is special standing out from among the others.

And she sees Him as a beautiful apple tree which provides her with security and comfort as she sits in His sweet presence.

She speaks "He brought me to His banqueting house and His banner over me was love."

He sustains her and He refreshes her and she is "lovesick" as He embraces her with His hand.

As she sits with Him in that special place, where He has proclaimed His love as a banner, she is filled with anticipation and desire for such a great feeling of love has fallen upon her.

Then she speaks, "Do not stir up or awaken love until it pleases."  She doesn't want this feeling to be interrupted and only wants it to continue to completion.

We have that in our relationship with Jesus.  We share a love story that is so intimately fulfilling that we never want it to end.

What a blessing it is that  it will never end as long as we honor and cherish the One we love in reciprocation to His love for us.

The love we share with Jesus is indeed pleasing!

She hears His voice and sees Him as strong and beautiful as He calls her to come and be with him.  She is pleased that He desires to be with her. In His presence, she feels loved, lovely and beautiful.

He says to her, "Oh my dove, let me see your face."

Just as two lovers seek each other's gaze and closeness, they experience tenderness in closeness and in gentleness of a soft spoken voice.

They are indeed sharing of a love so sweet and fulfilling as anyone ever can dream of in an intimate relationship.

And our relationship  with Jesus is just that!  It is intimate, sweet and fulfilling.  The essence of who Jesus is and His love for us expressed in human form.

Amazing love! Eternal love!

As she declares..."My beloved is mine, and I am His!"

In this union,  there is no division!

Then she speaks...He feeds his flock among the lilies.
Until the day breaks
And the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
Upon the mountains of Bether."

With the love of Jesus, when I am His beloved and He is mine, I need not worry about the mountains that divide.

There may be mountains at times, that seek to divide us from His love, but we can rest assured that we are His and He is ours!

Just as the gazelle or young stag can live on the mountain terrain, we can also overcome through the the strength and love of

Jesus who covers us.

His banner over us is love!

My prayer for today...simple and true.  May we all be lovesick for our Lord.  Blessed be His name. Amen.

Song of Solomon 2 New King James Version (NKJV)

A Country Girl in a Palace

1 I am the rose of Sharon,
And the lily of the valleys.

The Beloved

2 Like a lily among thorns,
So is my love among the daughters.

The Shulamite

3 Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods,
So is my beloved among the sons.
I sat down in his shade with great delight,
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.

The Shulamite to the Daughters of Jerusalem

4 He brought me to the banqueting house,
And his banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with cakes of raisins,
Refresh me with apples,
For I am lovesick.

6 His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.
7 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
By the gazelles or by the does of the field,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.

The Beloved’s Request
The Shulamite

8 The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes
Leaping upon the mountains,
Skipping upon the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he stands behind our wall;
He is looking through the windows,
Gazing through the lattice.

10 My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.
11 For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away!

14 “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”

Her Brothers

15 Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes.

The Shulamite

16 My beloved is mine, and I am his.
He feeds his flock among the lilies.

(To Her Beloved)

17 Until the day breaks
And the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
Upon the mountains of Bether.
