The beauty of the butterfly  by Patricia Ann 9/9/22

Butterflies are beautiful!  As we look at butterflies,  we can see that each butterfly is intricately designed by our Creator with a unique beauty and design that surpasses our understanding.

Many butterflies are vibrant with color...the red and orange colors, bright blue or yellow with black accents. 

We notice them...and we often desire to catch them, hold them for a moment or keep them in a jar so that we can study them and enjoy them for as long as we can.  But, if we were to put a butterfly in a jar for too long, it wouldn't survive.

Butterflies were created to fly!

When we look closely at the butterfly, we notice the fragility of their paper-like wings and see that God designed each one with His love.  He gave them wings that have a special coating that allows them to fly through the air with ease.  We like seeing them fly in the gentle breeze and we often take note of just how free the butterfly seems to be. 

The beautiful accents on their wings provide protection from predators, as they blend in with their surroundings.  Butterflies have six tiny legs that can somehow hang on tight to your finger or even ride on the mirror of a car driving down the road and not fall off.  Their antennae guide them and thier mouth is specially designed to drink from rain puddles in the road, or to find nourishment in the sweet nectar of flower gardens.

It seems that butterflies never get lost, and never worry about where they are going.

Butterflies just are what they are...happy to captivate us with their beauty and trust in the One who created them to "just be". 

In thinking about butterflies, it seems that their fragility equals their strength.

And that brings me to think about us...God's children.  We are each a unique part of His creation.  He tells us that when we are weak, He makes us strong. 

And He designed us to fly, too!  He tells us that we can mount up on wings like eagles.

And our Father in Heaven desires for us to "just be".

No, we aren't butterflies!

But, we are each created beautiful and vibrant with fragility and strength that surpasses even our own understanding at times.

It might sound kind of strange to think,  "I want to be like a butterfly." 

But isn't that the essence of trusting in our God, our Father who loves us the Most? 

Isn't being like a butterfly... accepting that we are a beautiful part of Creation with a purpose to Glorify our God with our presence that brings joy and awe to those who meet us? 

Isn't being like a butterfly...accepting that we are created to be free? 

Isn't being like a butterfly...just beautiful?

I say, "Yes!"

And like the butterfly, that isn't meant to live confined in a jar, 

we also are not meant to live our lives bound to our circumstances.

Like the butterfly, we are created to "fly"!

My prayer for today is that we all allow ourselves to be as free as the butterflies. May we grab hold of the beautiful essence that our God created us to share... and never be afraid to fly!
